Allen Kitselman on Songwriting

This weekend, Allen Kitselman transformed a cold rainy evening in Leesburg into a magical time with his outstanding musicianship, his astute storytelling, his humor, and his empathy. There was not a dry eye in the place at times, and that had nothing to do with the weather. Allen’s deeply-personal songs touch your soul and warm your heart. None of us could believe that Saturday night was Allen’s first solo gig. Wow.

The venue Shoe’s Cup and Cork is a listening room, even when packed to the gills with patrons. If you have not been yet, make sure to check it out soon.

The sets were made up entirely of Allen’s music, and featured Genghis Angus songs and Bitter Liberal songs alike. Allen’s expert solo guitar work brought all of the songs a gorgeous, stripped-down intimacy. It was all the rest of the Bitter Liberals could do not to sing along with these songs that we know and love so well.
